Day 1: The Romance of Tihany and the Panoramic Views
Daytime itinerary: Arrive at the Tihany Peninsula. Park in one of the outer parking lots (due to the size of your RV, the lots near Inner Lake or at the ferry are more spacious). Visit the Tihany Abbey, take a stroll along the Pisky Promenade, and explore the lavender fields.
Food tip: Enjoy a pastry at the abbey’s pastry shop, which offers an unparalleled view of the lake.
Overnight accommodations: Mirabella Camping (Zamárdi) or Balatontourist Füred Campground. If you’d prefer to stay on the Füred side, the Füred campground—located right on the waterfront—welcomes RVs with spacious sites and electrical hookups.
Day 2: The Elegance of Balatonfüred and the Gateway to the Káli Basin
Daytime itinerary: Drive over to Balatonfüred. Take a stroll along the Tagore Promenade, lined with plane trees. In the afternoon, head inland toward the enchanting Káli Basin. The area around Köveskál and Szentbékkálla is accessible via narrow but well-maintained roads. A must-see stop in Szentbékkálla is the Kőtenger, home to gigantic rocking stones.
Dining tip: Köveskál is famous for its cuisine; the Kővirág restaurant or Miakő are excellent choices for a lunch made with local ingredients.
Overnight Accommodation: Balatontourist Camping Napfény (Révfülöp). This family-friendly and extremely well-equipped campground is an ideal base for exploring the central part of the Balaton Uplands, with premium RV sites.
Day 3: The Witness Hills and Szigliget Castle
Daytime itinerary: Continue westward toward Badacsony. It’s best to park your RV at the foot of the mountain and hike or take a local off-road taxi up to the wine cellars and basalt formations. In the afternoon, visit Szigliget Castle, also known as the “Castle of Lake Balaton,” which offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Witness Hills and the lake.
Food tip: Sample the local Szürkebarát or Kéknyelű wines at the Laposa Estate in Badacsony or the Nefelejcs wine bar in Szigliget.
Overnight Accommodation: Balaton Eldorado Camping (Badacsonytördemic). Located right at the foot of Badacsony, on the lakeshore, this family-friendly spot—particularly popular with RV travelers—offers electricity and water hookups.
Day 4: Tapolca’s Underground Wonder
Daytime itinerary: Leave the shore behind and head north toward Tapolca. Located in the heart of the town is the Tapolca Lake Cave, where, after visiting the visitor center, you can hop into a boat and row yourself through the crystal-clear, illuminated waters beneath the town. After the cave, take a relaxing stroll along the shore of the incredibly charming Malom Lake, adorned with a millwheel.
